Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp cloves optional
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.75 cup milk
  • 1.5 cups diced apples
Cinnamon Glaze
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2-3 tbsp milk

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch cake pan.
  2. Whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs and vanilla.
  5. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk until combined.
  6. Fold in diced apples.
  7. Pour batter into pan and smooth top.
  8. Bake 35–40 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Whisk glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled cake.

Notes

Use firm apples for best texture. Cake can be made a day ahead and glazed before serving.
