Ingredients
  

Cake Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs large
  • 1 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
Frosting
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3.5 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.75 cup cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup dark chocolate melted
  • 0.5 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls

  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare cake pans.
  2. Whisk dry ingredients together.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, butter, and vanilla and mix well.
  4. Slowly mix in hot coffee until smooth batter forms.
  5. Divide batter into pans.
  6. Bake 30–35 minutes until done.
  7. Cool completely on rack.
  8. Beat frosting ingredients until fluffy.
  9. Layer and frost cake evenly.

Notes

For deeper flavor, refrigerate overnight before serving.
