Ingredients
  

Creamed Beef Base
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4.5 oz dried chipped beef rinsed and chopped
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 pinch paprika optional
  • 6-8 slices white or sourdough bread toasted

Method
 

  1. Rinse and chop the dried chipped beef.
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat and whisk in the flour to form a roux.
  3. Slowly add milk and heavy cream while whisking until smooth and thickened.
  4. Stir in the chipped beef and simmer for 4–5 minutes.
  5. Season with black pepper and paprika.
  6. Toast bread until golden.
  7. Spoon creamed chipped beef over toast and serve warm.

Notes

For thicker gravy, simmer an extra 2 minutes. Add peas or mushrooms for variation.
