- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Melt butter in a saucepan and sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook briefly.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
- Whisk in cream and milk, cooking until slightly thickened.
- Remove from heat and stir in cheeses and seasonings.
- Layer potatoes and sauce in the baking dish.
- Cover and bake 40 minutes, then uncover and bake 35 minutes until golden.
