Ingredients
  

Cheese
  • 12 mozzarella string sticks halved
Coating
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1.5 cups Italian breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
Frying & Serving
  • oil for frying
  • marinara sauce for dipping

  • Mixing bowls
  • Deep frying pan

Method
 

  1. Freeze halved mozzarella sticks for at least 1 hour.
  2. Prepare bowls of flour, beaten eggs with milk, and seasoned breadcrumbs.
  3. Coat each stick in flour, then egg, then breadcrumbs.
  4. Repeat egg and breadcrumb coating for double crust.
  5. Freeze coated sticks 30–45 minutes.
  6. Heat oil to 350°F.
  7. Fry sticks 1–2 minutes until golden.
  8. Drain on rack and serve hot with marinara.

Notes

Freezing before frying prevents cheese from leaking. Double breading ensures crisp coating.
