- Preheat oven to 225°F (107°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone mat.
- In a clean, dry mixing bowl, beat egg whites on medium speed until foamy.
- Add cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar, one tablespoon at a time, beating on high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form.
- Fold in vanilla extract and any optional flavors like peppermint or cocoa.
- Pipe small meringue kisses onto prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle with festive decorations.
- Bake 60–75 minutes until firm. Turn off oven and let meringues cool inside for 30 minutes with the door slightly open.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Serve or gift as desired.
Notes
Ensure bowls are completely dry. Avoid high humidity to keep meringues crisp.
