  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda

  • red gel food coloring
  • green gel food coloring
  • 0.75 cup Christmas sprinkles

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet

  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well.
  5. Add dry ingredients gradually to form dough.
  6. Divide dough into three portions; tint one red, one green, and leave one plain.
  7. Press and twist dough sections into a swirl log without overmixing.
  8. Slice into 1/2-inch rounds and roll edges in sprinkles.
  9. Bake 10–12 minutes until set but soft in the center.
  10. Cool 5 minutes on tray, then transfer to rack.

Notes

For brighter color, use gel food coloring. Chill dough briefly if too soft to slice.
