Ingredients
  

Toffee Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Toppings
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or almonds toasted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips semisweet or milk
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped nuts optional topping

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Sprinkle with half the nuts.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter, sugar, and salt over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Continue cooking until the mixture reaches 300°F or turns deep golden, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Pour toffee over the nuts and spread evenly with a heatproof spatula.
  6. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, let melt for 2 minutes, then spread evenly.
  7. Top with remaining nuts and let cool completely before breaking into pieces.

Notes

For extra shine, do not refrigerate the toffee during cooling; let it set at room temperature.
