- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, baking soda, and salt.
- Cream butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in molasses, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add dry ingredients and mix until combined.
- Roll dough into balls and coat generously in powdered sugar.
- Bake 10–12 minutes until cookies crack and set.
- Cool slightly before transferring to wire rack.

Do not overbake for soft centers.
