Method
- Whisk sugar, cornstarch, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a saucepan.
- Slowly whisk in milk and eggnog until smooth.
- Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
- Temper egg yolks with hot mixture, then return to saucepan.
- Cook 1–2 minutes longer until glossy.
- Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
- Transfer to dishes, cover surface, and chill before serving.
Notes
For extra richness, use full-fat eggnog and freshly grated nutmeg.
