Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1.5 cups eggnog
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 2 egg yolks large
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Whisk sugar, cornstarch, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a saucepan.
  2. Slowly whisk in milk and eggnog until smooth.
  3. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until thickened.
  4. Temper egg yolks with hot mixture, then return to saucepan.
  5. Cook 1–2 minutes longer until glossy.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
  7. Transfer to dishes, cover surface, and chill before serving.

Notes

For extra richness, use full-fat eggnog and freshly grated nutmeg.
