Ingredients
  

Meat Filling
  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
Potato Topping
  • 1 packet instant mashed potatoes prepared
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup shredded cheddar cheese optional

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Baking dish
  • Mixing spoon
  • Potato masher or fork

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Brown ground meat in a skillet over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  3. Add onion and cook until softened, then stir in garlic.
  4. Mix in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, salt, and pepper.
  5. Stir in frozen vegetables and beef broth; simmer until slightly thickened.
  6. Prepare mashed potatoes according to package instructions with butter and milk.
  7. Spread meat mixture into a baking dish and top with mashed potatoes.
  8. Rough up the surface with a fork and sprinkle with cheese if desired.
  9. Bake 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly. Rest before serving.

Notes

You can assemble this dish ahead of time and refrigerate before baking. Substitute ground turkey or plant-based crumbles if preferred.
