Ingredients
  

Base
  • 1 sleeve salted butter crackers such as Club or saltines
Caramel Topping
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1.5 cups chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp salt omit if crackers are salted
  • 0.5 cup chocolate chips optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil.
  2. Arrange crackers in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  3. Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and cook 2–3 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and salt.
  5. Pour caramel over crackers and spread evenly.
  6. Sprinkle pecans over the top.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  8. Sprinkle chocolate chips on top if using and allow to melt.
  9. Cool completely, then break into pieces.

Notes

For clean squares, slice before bark fully hardens.
