Sausage Gravy
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage mild, spicy, or sage
  • 2 tbsp butter optional
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 0.5 tsp salt or to taste
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder optional
  • 0.25 tsp onion powder optional
  • 1 pinch crushed red pepper flakes optional

Method
 

  1. Brown sausage in skillet over medium heat until fully cooked.
  2. Add butter if needed based on fat rendered.
  3. Sprinkle flour over sausage and stir for 1–2 minutes.
  4. Slowly pour in milk while whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
  5. Season with salt, pepper, and optional spices.
  6. Simmer until thickened, adjusting milk if needed.
  7. Serve hot over biscuits, toast, or hash browns.

Notes

For reheating, add a splash of milk and warm over low heat.
