Ingredients
  

Chocolate Cobbler Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter melted
Topping
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Hot Water Layer
  • 1.5 cups hot water not boiling

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease an 8×8-inch baking dish.
  2. Combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and cocoa powder.
  3. Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla. Stir until the batter is smooth.
  4. Spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  5. Mix the topping ingredients: granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa powder.
  6. Sprinkle topping evenly over the batter without mixing.
  7. Pour the hot water evenly over the entire surface. Do not stir.
  8. Bake for 35–45 minutes until the top is set but the bottom is still molten.
  9. Let cool slightly and serve warm with ice cream.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder. Best served warm.
