Ingredients

Dough
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
Garlic Herb Filling
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh basil chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheese mozzarella or blend

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Baking sheet
  • Wire rack
  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method

  1. Combine warm milk and sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast over top and let stand until foamy.
  2. Add olive oil and salt. Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 8–10 minutes.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled, about 60 minutes.
  5. Mix butter, garlic, herbs, and seasonings in a small bowl.
  6. Roll dough into a rectangle. Spread garlic butter evenly and sprinkle with cheese.
  7. Roll tightly into a log and place seam-side down in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Let rise again for 30 minutes. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden.

Notes

For extra flavor, brush the top with melted butter and sprinkle with herbs immediately after baking.
