Ingredients
  

Tennessee Onions
  • 3-4 Vidalia onions sliced into 1/2-inch half-moons
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce optional
  • 0.5 cup Ritz crackers crushed, optional topping
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted, for topping

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Slice onions into 1/2-inch half-moons and separate layers.
  3. Spread onions evenly in the casserole dish.
  4. Sprinkle onions with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour melted butter evenly over the onions.
  6. Drizzle Worcestershire sauce over the onions for added flavor.
  7. Top with shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese.
  8. If using, mix crushed Ritz crackers with melted butter and sprinkle over the top.
  9. Bake for 35–40 minutes until onions are tender and cheese is bubbly and golden.
  10. Let sit 5–10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Vidalia onions are ideal for sweetness. Add red pepper flakes for a spicy version.
