Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • oil for frying
Glaze
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Method
 

  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until foamy.
  2. Whisk in remaining sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.
  3. Add flour and salt gradually, mixing to form a soft dough.
  4. Knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  5. Place dough in greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled.
  6. Roll dough and cut into donut shapes.
  7. Let shaped donuts rise again until puffy.
  8. Heat oil to 350°F and fry donuts until golden on both sides.
  9. Whisk glaze ingredients until smooth.
  10. Dip warm donuts into glaze and let set before serving.

Maintain oil temperature for best texture and avoid overcrowding while frying.
